The Los Angeles Rams secured a crucial piece of their franchise this offseason, keeping quarterback Matthew Stafford in the fold with a new two-year deal — one that aligns perfectly with the contract of star receiver Davante Adams and creates a defined window for another championship push.
Despite overtures from other teams, Stafford chose stability in L.A., reportedly passing on more lucrative offers to remain with a team poised to contend. His commitment comes as some speculate on how much longer the 36-year-old will suit up in the NFL.
Matthew Stafford Still Has Fire Left

“Stafford’s tenure with the Rams nearly came to an end this offseason,” CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan wrote, “but the veteran quarterback flirted with other prospective teams before ultimately deciding to reunite with the Rams via a two-year extension.”
Sullivan believes Stafford won’t retire after 2025, instead predicting he’ll continue playing through his current deal — barring injury.
The quarterback himself echoed that sentiment. “I hope I got three or four [seasons] left in me. We’ll see,” Stafford said on Pardon My Take. “I enjoy playing too much to hang it up.”
Los Angeles Rams Betting Big on 2025
Stafford is still performing at a high level, passing for nearly 4,000 yards and 24 touchdowns last season despite limited mobility and an aging frame. The Rams are built to win now, and 2025 may be their best shot with this current core. Still, the risks are clear: Stafford’s age makes durability a growing concern.
“This team is once again knocking on the door,” Sullivan noted, “and outside of injury, it’d likely be hard to walk away.”
If 2025 truly is the Rams’ window, they’ve got the right quarterback to chase the ring — one more time.
