Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford enters the 2025 season with 59,809 career passing yards, currently sitting at No. 10 on the NFL’s all-time leaderboard. The names ahead of him are iconic, but so is Stafford’s arm.
With a healthy year and a retooled Rams offense, he’s in position to climb several spots by the end of the season.
Who’s Within Reach For Rams QB Matthew Stafford?
Here’s who Stafford is chasing:
- Dan Marino (61,361 yards), just 1,552 yards ahead. That’s well within reach by midseason.
- Matt Ryan (62,792 yards), 2,983 yards ahead. Stafford has averaged 3,675 with LA
- Aaron Rodgers (62,952 yards), roughly 3,143 yards ahead. With Rodgers’ future with the Steelers, it’s likely he passes for at least 3000 yards, moving himself up the list as well.
- Philip Rivers (63,440 yards) and Ben Roethlisberger (64,088 yards), both still within 4,300 yards. That’s a stretch, but not impossible if Stafford has one of his vintage high-volume seasons.
With a 4,500-yard season, Stafford would jump all five names and move into the No. 5 spot all-time. He would trail only Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Brett Favre.
Even though it’s unlikely, here’s the rest of the list of everyone on the leaderboard
Brett Favre: 12,029 yards away
Peyton Manning: 12,131 yards away
Drew Brees: 20,549 yards away
Tom Brady: 29,405 yards away
The Rams’ Offense Is Built To Score

This offseason, the Rams sent a clear message by acquiring Davante Adams. Pairing him with Puka Nacua gives Stafford one of the most dangerous receiver duos in the league. Adams adds elite separation and red zone production, which should directly benefit Stafford’s efficiency and volume.
Tight end Terrance Ferguson, a rookie out of Oregon, is another key piece. The Rams drafted him to make a difference inside the 20, and early reports out of minicamp suggest he’s already earning trust. His size and ball skills should make him a reliable target on third downs and near the goal line.
Better Red Zone Execution = More Yardage and TDs
The Rams struggled in the red zone last year. They moved the ball well but left too many points on the board. Valuable passing touchdowns and yardage went to Kyren Williams instead of Stafford. With Adams and Ferguson added to a group that already includes Nacua and Kyren Williams, that should change in 2025.

Stafford won’t just be piling up empty yards. This season, the Rams are positioned to finish drives. That shift matters when it comes to total yardage, because sustained drives and scoring chances mean more plays and more production.
Stafford is going to pass Marino. He should pass Matt Ryan as well. If he stays healthy and this offense clicks, passing Philip Rivers and even Ben Roethlisberger is on the table. That would move him to No. 5 on the all-time list by the end of 2025.
At age 37, with a Hall of Fame resume already in place, Stafford now has a chance to put his name in the top five all-time. The talent around him is there; the only thing left is execution, and Stafford is ready for it.
