Since joining the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, Matthew Stafford has made 15 regular-season primetime starts. The record? 7 wins, 8 losses. That includes Monday Night Football, Sunday Night Football, and Thursday Night Football games.
It’s not the cleanest win-loss record, but wins are mostly a team stat, and Stafford’s story under the lights goes beyond just that column.
The numbers are steady, if not spectacular. In those 15 games, Stafford has thrown for 4,117 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He averages about 275 yards per game, completes 66.2 percent of his passes, and holds a passer rating just under 90.
LA Rams QB Matthew Stafford Is A Mixed Bag In Primetime Games

That’s solid, not MVP-level, but not far off from what you expect from a Super Bowl-caliber QB.
And when he’s on, he’s on. Stafford’s Los Angeles Rams debut in primetime against the Bears was a statement: 321 yards, 3 touchdowns, and complete command of McVay’s offense.
He followed that with another primetime gem later that season, outdueling Kyler Murray in Arizona with 3 touchdowns on MNF.

Most recently, he lit up the Vikings in 2024 on TNF with 4 touchdowns, looking like the guy who helped bring a Lombardi to L.A.
But the lows haven’t been rare. In a Sunday night loss to Tennessee in 2021, Stafford threw two interceptions that directly led to 14 points. He followed that with another two-pick night in San Francisco. Against Buffalo in 2022 and Cincinnati in 2023, the pressure overwhelmed the offense, and the turnovers piled up. No touchdowns against Miami. Missed red zone chances. Drives that stalled in the worst moments.
Still, his resumé includes a Super Bowl title in 2021. He led playoff wins against Tom Brady and Joe Burrow. The biggest moments of his career haven’t scared him, but in the regular-season spotlight, that level hasn’t always shown up.

So here’s the truth: Stafford is streaky during primetime. It is not a weakness, but not a guaranteed strength either. His best performances can carry a team, but his off-nights tend to sink it. That gap, between elite and erratic, is what defines his primetime résumé right now.
