Future Of Los Angeles Rams Hangs On One Position Group Heading Into Training Camp

The Los Angeles Rams are in the process of turning the page, and all focus is on training camp. For some players, the camp will be a nice warmup before the regular season kicks off in September.

However, for others, this will be their Super Bowl as they try to set themselves up for the future. The quarterback room is overwhelmingly in the latter category.

Jimmy Garoppolo Facing Huge Training Camp With Los Angeles Rams

The backup quarterback has played in a Super Bowl himself, but plenty of time has passed since then. Garoppolo is working on a one-year deal (Spotrac) due to expire after the 2025 season. Unless something unwanted happens to Matthew Stafford, Garoppolo will have until the end of August to prove himself useful enough to get to 2026.

With Stafford’s long-term future perennially up in the air, this could be Garoppolo’s audition to start in 2026. Of course, he might be the bridge quarterback in that scenario, depending on what happens, but getting to next season should be his primary goal.

Garoppolo has put out decent tape already, throwing for two touchdowns, an interception, and completing 65.9% of his passes in a brief 0-1 sighting in 2024, so he has at least one somewhat positive argument for himself going into training camp.

Stetson Bennett Could Be Looking At His Final Shot With Los Angeles Rams

Bennett has spent his entire NFL career lurking in the background behind other quarterbacks, but he might finally get a moment to steal the show in August. The backup is heading into his third season and has managed to stick around thus far.

However, if a quarterback room revamp happens in 2026, Bennett’s performance in the preseason could lead to a promotion or a demotion, leading to a trade or, more likely, a release to make room for another potential solution.

Bennett is still looking for his first regular-season action, and if he can’t win Sean McVay’s trust enough to potentially start games in 2026, he might be out of time if Stafford walks after the season.

Put simply, the pressure is on both quarterbacks to make their best case in the preseason because if not, the Los Angeles Rams might rebuild everything on top of potentially finding a replacement for Stafford.

All of this said, Stafford also deserves some attention in the preseason, if nothing else, than seeing how far he can go to quiet any doubters concerned with his increasing age.

Will this be the last training camp for this Los Angeles Rams QB Room iteration?
