The Los Angeles Rams still have around $19M in cap space and holes at corner, edge, and linebacker.
Here are five realistic veterans who could help immediately.
Free Agent Options For The Los Angeles Rams

1. Rasul Douglas – CB
Big, physical, experienced. Douglas didn’t record an INT last year but had 4+ in each of the three years before that. He’d be one of the best CBs on the roster.
Fit:
Short-term stopgap. One-year deal. Veteran leadership and starting ability on the outside.
2. Asante Samuel Jr. – CB
Coming off an injury, but young and explosive. If he’s healthy, he’s a long-term solution with ball skills and upside. Could be had on a “prove-it” deal.
Fit:
Low risk, high reward with the possibility of developing into a full-time starter. Would push Durant or Witherspoon for a starting role and bring much-needed speed.

3. Za’Darius Smith – EDGE
Still had 9 sacks last year, split between two teams. Would instantly be the Los Angeles Rams’ most accomplished pass rusher.
Fit:
Plays 40–50% of snaps. Would let Verse and Young develop without carrying the whole load. Strong locker room presence.
4. Kyzir White – ILB
Reliable tackler with coverage ability. Led the Cardinals with 137 tackles in 2024. Would be the Rams’ best ILB the second he signs.
Fit:
Can call plays, cover TEs, and stabilize an inexperienced group. Affordable.
5. Brandon Scherff – Guard
Veteran mauler. Would be expensive, but if his market stays low, a one-year deal could work. Adds depth, flexibility, and experience.
Fit:
Insurance for the interior line. Would allow Avila to slide around and help young linemen develop.
Priority needs are cornerback and edge. Signing Douglas or Samuel, plus Smith, would stabilize the weakest spots. White fills the linebacker void, and Scherff would be a bonus if the cap allows.
If the Rams land even two of these guys, they’ll be in a much better spot come August.
