Los Angeles Chargers New Addition Turning Heads At Rookie Minicamp

The Los Angeles Chargers made fans wait longer than expected to add a high-profile weapon for quarterback Justin Herbert this offseason. When they finally addressed the position, it was with Tre Harris in the second round of the NFL Draft—a move that drew mixed initial reactions but quickly gained traction among fans and even within the organization.

While not the headline-grabbing name some anticipated, Harris has since emerged as a favorite among fans envisioning his potential in Herbert’s offense. Members of the Chargers organization have hinted that the rest of the league may have overlooked Harris’s upside, with some suggesting he has legitimate No. 1 receiver potential.

Those high hopes took a tangible step forward Monday, when fans got their first glimpse of the Herbert-to-Harris connection during early offseason practices.

Although social media clips show Harris running routes without defenders—standard fare for this time of year—they still managed to go viral. It’s an early sign of the excitement building around the rookie wideout and a preview of what could come during training camp and beyond.

The Chargers’ approach at wide receiver this offseason was notably conservative. They added two rookies, including Harris, and brought back veteran Mike Williams. Yet if Harris impresses during the summer, there’s growing belief he could see more snaps than Williams right out of the gate, especially alongside fellow rookie Ladd McConkey in Week 1.

These early May practice reps may not be game-changing, but they represent the first steps in building crucial timing and chemistry between Herbert and Harris. For a franchise eager to maximize its quarterback’s prime, the development of that connection could define much of the Chargers’ 2025 outlook.
