The Los Angeles Chargers received a significant offseason boost with the return of veteran linebacker Denzel Perryman, who has been cleared for offseason workouts after recovering from an elbow injury suffered during the AFC Playoff loss to the Houston Texans.
Los Angeles Chargers Get Boost as Denzel Perryman Nears Full Strength for 2025 Season
Perryman, who rejoined the Chargers in 2024 and recently signed a new contract in March, says he’s feeling “back to 100 percent,” per NFL.com. Despite being limited to 11 games last season, the veteran recorded 55 tackles—including 39 solo stops—two tackles for loss, and a sack, helping anchor one of the NFL’s top scoring defenses.

“They brought me back for a reason,” Perryman said Tuesday. “I still feel like, regardless of my age, I still bring some type of value to the team.”
This marks Perryman’s second stint with the Chargers, following time with the Texans and Raiders. In 2021, he posted a career-best 154 tackles with Las Vegas, and he currently boasts 717 career stops.
The 2025 season brings elevated expectations under head coach Jim Harbaugh, who led Los Angeles to an 11-win season and a playoff berth in his debut year after departing Michigan’s national championship team. Harbaugh’s physical, run-first mentality aligns well with Perryman’s style of play.
“We are like brothers in that [linebackers] room,” Perryman added. “There’s a tight-knit bond. We kind of know what each person is going to bring.”
With Perryman healthy again, the Chargers’ defense looks primed to build on last year’s success—and take another step forward under Harbaugh’s leadership.
