Los Angeles Chargers Could Solve Huge Problem With 5th Round Pick Trade, According To Analyst

Bleacher Report recently named Dallas Goedert as a veteran in need of a fresh start, and the Los Angeles Chargers could be the ideal destination. Despite a productive career in Philadelphia, Goedert’s role has diminished, and with the Chargers searching for more weapons for quarterback Justin Herbert, a trade makes sense for both sides.

Los Angeles made several offseason moves to bolster its offense — signing Najee Harris, Tyler Conklin, and Mekhi Becton, while bringing back Mike Williams. Still, their pass-catching corps lacks top-end depth. Conklin is solid but limited, and with no elite tight end in place, Goedert could immediately elevate the unit.

A trade package of a 2026 fifth-round pick and a swap of late-round selections might be enough, given Goedert’s situation. His production has declined over three straight seasons, and at 30, with his contract expiring after 2025, the Eagles could view him as expendable — especially with Grant Calcaterra proving serviceable during Goedert’s injury absence.

From October 13 to November 3 last season, Calcaterra caught 13 passes for 160 yards while Goedert nursed a hamstring injury. Those numbers projected over a full year would’ve outpaced Goedert’s 2025 regular-season output. With both tight ends hitting free agency after this year, Philadelphia may choose to retain the younger, cheaper option.

Goedert still showed flashes during the Eagles’ Super Bowl run, recording 17 catches for 215 yards and a touchdown — proof he has something left in the tank. A change of scenery, particularly to a Harbaugh-led Chargers offense, could rejuvenate his career and give Herbert a reliable, experienced target in key moments.

If Los Angeles wants to compete in a loaded AFC, giving Herbert a tight end like Goedert might be a quiet but crucial move.
