Former USC Trojans Top Target Predicted To Spurn Oregon Ducks For Big 12 School

5-Star quarterback Ryder Lyons was once one of the top priority prospects for the USC Trojans. That was until Lincoln Riley flipped Jonas Williams from the Oregon Ducks, and then set their sights on 2027 prospect Peyton Houston.

Lyons visited USC numerous times, and his brother, Walker Lyons, is currently a tight end for the Trojans, but it seems as if both sides had mutually decided to go in a different direction.

This set the stage for other schools to prioritize the recruitment of Lyons, which included the likes of Oregon. As mentioned, the Ducks lost Jonas Williams in a flip to USC. They also missed out on No. 1 ranked QB Jared Curtis, who has committed to Georgia.

Dan Lanning and the Ducks then went all in on Lyons, and now it seems that they still might miss out on the top-ranked quarterback from California.

Former USC Trojans Recruit Ryder Lyons Gets Multiple Crystal Ball Predictions To Commit To BYU

One of the schools competing with Oregon for Lyons has been BYU. Many believed that they were a long shot, but they have always been a real viable option, for multiple reasons.

Lyons is reportedly set to announce his commitment tomorrow (6/23), and now multiple crystal balls have been submitted predicting Lyons to commit to BYU.

The 247 Sports staff put in a crystal ball for BYU back on June 19th.

For On3, Oregon insiders Justin Hopkins and Max Torres, USC insider Scott Schrader, and national recruiting insiders Pete Nakos, Chad Simmons, and Steve Wiltfong all made expert predictions for BYU.

BYU made a very strong NIL offer to Lyons, attempting to make him the face of the class. They also play in a very winnable and wide-open Big 12 Conference with a very clear path to the College Football Playoff. Lastly, Lyons’ LDS faith (taking a one-year mission after high school) aligns with BYU.

Lyons is the 5th-ranked quarterback in the 2026 class, according to On3 Industry Rankings. If he does indeed commit to BYU, Oregon will go back to the drawing board yet again in an attempt to add a quarterback to the 2026 class.

With the USC Trojans recruiting on the rise, Oregon has certainly taken a hit this cycle.
