USC Trojans Lose First De-Commitment Of No. 1 2026 Class

The USC Trojans have had a historic recruiting run over the last few months. With 27 players committed in their No. 1-ranked 2026 class, we knew it was going to be a long shot that every single one of them remained all the way to signing day in December.

Unfortunately, their class is now down to 26 as 3-star wide receiver Kohen Brown just announced that he is de-committing and re-opening his recruitment.

Is this a bad sign, or something that we knew was inevitable?

Kohen Brown De-Commits From USC Trojans

In a post to his X account, Brown writes:

“After a lot of thought and meaningful conversations with my family, I’ve decided to de-commit from USC. I want to sincerely thank the coaching staff and everyone at USC for all the support and belief in me. I truly appreciate everything they’ve done. At this point, I feel it’s best for me to reopen my recruitment 100%. Thank you all for understanding and for the continued support – it means a lot to me.”

Brown is a 3-star wide receiver out of Waxahachie, Texas. He committed to USC back on April 2 after an unofficial visit.

He is a true burner and would have brought a lot of speed to the Trojans’ offense. In his junior year, he finished with 1,100 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. He runs a 10.69 100-meter dash and a 4.43 40-yard dash.

You never want to see any players de-commit, but with this size class, and with the amount of receivers, it was bound to happen.

The Trojans still have 4 receivers in the class (3 from California), and are in heavy pursuit of more. With the commitment of Luc Weaver about a week ago, the USC Trojans got a player very similar to Brown’s skill set. He is slightly taller and heavier than Brown (6’3 – 205) but ran a slightly faster 100-meter clocking 10.68 this past spring.

Whether this was Brown’s decision or USC’s decision to go in a different direction, both parties will still flourish. Brown has been recruited hard locally by SMU and Baylor. I would not be surprised if he ends up staying closer to home in Texas.

I will be dropping more USC recruiting intel later today and over the weekend.
