“1000% Committed” To UCLA Bruins, LB Shockingly Picks UCLA Over Washington

Ramzak Fruean’s official visit with the UCLA Bruins made a lasting impression—and it ultimately sealed his decision.

The Spanaway (Wash.) Bethel linebacker, one of the top prospects in the Northwest, committed to UCLA after a weekend in Westwood that, in his words, was “incredible.”

“The energy, the culture, the sense of purpose—it just hit me as soon as I got there,” Fruean said. “Coach Foster spoke with passion, and the pride everyone had in the program was real.”

Fruean, who had visited Oregon State the week prior and had upcoming trips scheduled to BYU and Washington, didn’t need to wait any longer.

“I’m 1000-percent committed to UCLA,” he posted, thanking his family, faith, and the Bruins program.

Key in his recruitment was defensive coordinator Ikaika Malloe, a fellow Hawaii native and alumnus of Fruean’s brother’s high school. Fruean praised Malloe’s defensive scheme and player-first approach. “He builds the system around his players’ strengths. That stood out.”

Fruean was also struck by the current players’ honesty during a player panel: “Their brotherhood made a big impact.”

Their linebacker development history didn’t hurt either. “UCLA has sent more linebackers to the NFL than anyone in the Big Ten over the past 15 years,” he noted.

Fruean becomes UCLA’s first Washington native in the 2026 class and its fourth commitment in June. As a junior, he recorded 45 solo tackles and three touchdowns.

He joins a class rapidly gaining momentum under head coach DeShaun Foster. Eight of UCLA’s 12 current commits joined since May, including four-star lineman Micah Smith and twin receivers Jaron and Kennan Pula.

With Fruean on board, the Bruins’ 2026 class now ranks No. 23 nationally—and climbing.
