It feels like ever since the Los Angeles Lakers signed LeBron James in the summer of 2018, it seems like they’ve had a need to surround him with better shooters who can help space the floor. Some years have been more successful than others, like when the Lakers managed to win the NBA Finals in 2020.
Yet, while the Lakers have reached the postseason each of the past three years, the past two ended with first-round eliminations. Now the Lakers are trying to capitalize on the twilight of LeBron’s career, and to no surprise, they’re linked to another sharpshooter.
According to The Stein Line’s NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Lakers are one of several teams that have “registered varying levels of interest” in either signing or completing a sign-and-trade with the Washington Wizards for Malcolm Brogdon.
“All of these scenarios, furthermore, are sure to have an impact on Brogdon. League sources say that the Wizards are open to sign-and-trade discussions to facilitate Brogdon’s exit from Washington and a slew of teams have registered varying levels of interest in the 32-year-old. That list includes the Clippers, Suns and Lakers as well as the Warriors, Timberwolves, Pelicans, Kings and Bucks.”

While Brogdon is coming off an uncharacteristically 28.6% season shooting from distance, he’s actually finished with a hit rate above 40% in four of his nine seasons as a pro. Chances are, he may just need a change of scenery after playing on a non-competitive team a year ago with the Washington Wizards.
Plus, he’d likely get a lot more open looks in Los Angeles, thanks to the presence of LeBron and Luka Doncic. However, with so many teams interested in the 32-year-old, it’s hard to know what to expect of him.
