Los Angeles Dodgers Ace Pitcher And Manager At An Impasse

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost another pitcher in their starting rotation to the injured list after putting Tony Gonsolin on the list before today’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

They did gain two bullpen arms in Michael Kopech and Kirby Yates, but their starting rotation is still depleted.

Gonsolin joins Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki, and Tyler Glasnow as the team’s starting rotation on the IL.

Glasnow seemed like he was trending towards making his way back to the active roster, but last week the team moved him to the 60-day IL, and he and his manager, Dave Roberts, seem to be at an impasse.

Dodgers’ Tyler Glasnow And Dave Roberts In Disagreement?

The Dodgers are being extra cautious with Glasnow’s return, it seems. After missing the postseason last year due to injury, the major priority is having him healthy come October.

“We’re on pause right now,” Dave Roberts told the media earlier this week. Or not pause; he’s playing catch. I’m not sure when he’s going to get back on a mound. Our hope is that it will be soon…I say this speaking for him, I know he’s frustrated as we all are as far as the process, since we’ve had him hasn’t been linear as far as getting him back.”

Roberts continued, “He wants to get back and help. Threw his one bullpen and then the body didn’t respond, so we’re trying to figure out when we can ramp him back up. He’s chomping at the bit, so that’s a good thing. I know he’s very anxious to get back out here and help his team.”

Glasnow has only pitched in five games so far this season, so the Dodgers hope that they can get him fully healthy for a stretch run.

When Glasnow spoke to reporters, it seemed as if he was not on the same page with the rest of the training staff.

“My shoulder is totally fine. That issue I haven’t felt since I’ve been throwing. Literally just a precaution, that’s all. Totally fine, I’m good to go. So, yeah, it was last week, but I’ve been feeling good. I’m throwing and pitched a bullpen, and really good.”

It is great to hear that Glasnow feels great and is confident in his return, but it does make you wonder what Roberts and the rest of the staff are seeing. They were clearly concerned enough about something if they moved him to the 60-day IL.

Unfortunately, they are literally running out of arms, so they may not have the luxury of letting this “precaution” linger for too much longer.

He has a 4.50 ERA and 23 strikeouts in his five games pitched so far this season.
