The Los Angeles Dodgers are all too familiar with the revolving door of pitching injuries, and now Tyler Glasnow is the latest name added to the list. After leaving consecutive starts early, Glasnow has been placed on the injured list with shoulder inflammation—a setback that manager Dave Roberts described as potentially “tricky” in terms of recovery timeline.
“This is going to be a tricky one as far as timeline,” Roberts told reporters, adding that the decision to shut Glasnow down wasn’t taken lightly. “For me, if we’re going to do this, then let’s make sure that we have everything taken care of—as far as the mechanics, the physical part of it. So when we do get him back, then we can just move forward without looking back.”
While Roberts doesn’t believe the injury is a long-term concern, there’s no clear timetable for Glasnow’s return. The 2024 All-Star becomes the fourth elite arm currently sidelined for L.A., joining a list that includes several big names.
Los Angeles Dodgers, Tyler Glasnow Has Tricky Recovery, Suffering From Body Soreness

When Glasnow was initially placed on the IL on Monday, Roberts downplayed the severity, describing his condition as “overall body soreness” and indicating no structural damage to the shoulder. However, a shutdown period of 10 to 14 days suggests a longer absence for Glasnow. Even upon clearance to resume throwing, he would require a ramp-up period and potentially several minor league rehab starts.
There is some good news, however. Tony Gonsolin has already made two starts back from injury, Clayton Kershaw is ramping up his throwing program, and Shohei Ohtani—though not pitching this year as he recovers from UCL surgery—is still a major asset in the lineup.
Glasnow posted a 4.50 ERA over 18 innings before landing on the IL, his highest potential season-ending ERA since 2017 if it doesn’t improve. He also tallied 23 strikeouts and 11 walks during that span. The Dodgers will hope that once healthy, Glasnow can regain the All-Star form he showed just last season.
