Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Tommy Edman is unlikely to return from the injured list this weekend as originally hoped, manager Dave Roberts confirmed this week.
Edman, sidelined with an ankle injury, was initially expected to miss only a short period—just the minimum 10 days. The Dodgers delayed placing him on the IL in hopes that a few days of rest would suffice. However, by Monday, with lingering soreness and no significant improvement, the team made the move, calling up rookie Hyeseong Kim as a temporary replacement.
Los Angeles Dodgers Tommy Edman Injury Update

“Tommy ran [Friday] and just still didn’t feel great—still some soreness in his ankle,” Roberts said earlier in the week. “Didn’t feel he could play tonight or even tomorrow, potentially. So just the backdate, knowing that it’s potentially 10 days to make sure he gets it right. We just felt that it was an easier decision.”
On Tuesday, Roberts offered a further update before the Dodgers faced the Miami Marlins: “It’s just not responding,” he said of Edman’s ankle. Roberts noted that Edman was scheduled to attempt some running that day, but the team is no longer optimistic about his chances of returning for the weekend series against the Los Angeles Angels.
While Edman’s absence continues, the Dodgers will rely on Kim and other infield options to help fill the gap.
