When the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Michael Conforto to a one-year, $17 million deal this offseason, it was seen as a savvy depth move. The 32-year-old former All-Star was expected to bring veteran stability to an outfield bolstered by the re-signing of Teoscar Hernández. While Hernández is enjoying another All-Star caliber season, Conforto’s tenure in L.A. has been rocky.

After a solid start—recording eight hits, two home runs, and five RBIs in his first eight games—Conforto’s production plummeted. Since April 6, he’s batted just .109 across 92 at-bats, striking out 34 times and driving in one run. As of May 20, he owns a .168 average with 24 hits in 143 at-bats, two home runs, six RBIs, and an OPS of .577. His -0.6 WAR is the lowest among Dodgers position players.

Despite his struggles, Conforto continues to get regular playing time, appearing in 38 games—second-most among Dodgers position players. Manager Dave Roberts remains optimistic. “He’s in a good spot. I’m sure he’s frustrated,” Roberts said. “But I applaud his work and his consistent effort. He’s not running from it, and that’s something that isn’t always easy when you’re struggling.”

There are encouraging signs beneath the surface. Conforto’s walk rate sits at 13.5%, his average exit velocity is 91 mph, and nearly half his batted balls come off the bat at 95 mph or harder. His plate discipline also remains strong, with an 86% contact rate in the strike zone.

Over his last 10 games, he’s hitting .265/.359/.412 with a .771 OPS—offering a glimmer of hope. With limited outfield depth and the season still young, the Dodgers will give Conforto more chances, betting his underlying metrics will soon translate into results.
