Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting pitcher, Clayton Kershaw, is now just three strikeouts away from becoming the 20th pitcher in MLB history to reach 3,000 career strikeouts — and he’ll have the chance to do it in front of a Dodger Stadium crowd.
The 37-year-old Dodgers legend struck out five batters over six strong innings against the Rockies on Saturday at Coors Field, bringing his career total to 2,997. Kershaw allowed just two hits and one earned run while throwing a crisp 69 pitches, 41 for strikes, in a vintage performance.
“It’s top of mind, and I think that’s a good thing,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said before the game. “That’s a credit to him and his career, what he’s done.”
Kershaw Gets Next Dodgers Start Vs. Chicago White Sox

Kershaw’s next start is projected for Thursday at home against the Chicago White Sox, where he will have a golden opportunity to join one of the most exclusive clubs in baseball. The 3,000-strikeout plateau — long considered a Hall of Fame benchmark — is a testament not just to dominance, but to durability. Only 19 pitchers have reached it, including Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, and former teammate CC Sabathia.
That Kershaw is even on the doorstep of the milestone in his 18th season, following multiple late-career injuries and offseason surgery, speaks to his enduring greatness. After making his 2025 debut in May, Kershaw has been sharp, bringing his trademark efficiency and command back to the mound.
He also continues to chase Dodgers history: with 18 more wins, he’ll tie Don Sutton for the most in franchise history — a pursuit that could extend into 2026 if Kershaw decides to return.
Kershaw made his MLB debut in 2008 and has spent his entire career with Los Angeles, becoming the longest-tenured player in the organization and one of the most decorated pitchers of his era. As the baseball world prepares to watch him cross the 3,000-strikeout threshold, one thing is certain — there are few players more synonymous with a single team or a singular brand of excellence than Clayton Kershaw.
