While fans were ecstatic when the Los Angeles Dodgers signed left-handed ace Blake Snell, the Cy Young-winning pitcher was just as, if not more, amped up to be joining the Boys in Blue.
Unfortunately, that excitement contributed to his now prolonged absence on the injury list.
A few days ago, Snell was on AM 570 Sports with David Vassegh, talking about his injury progression and his hope to return to the mound soon. During the conversation, he revealed that he may have worsened his injury by trying to pitch too soon in a ramp-up for opening day.
“I probably should have stopped throwing before Opening Day, but I just wanted to pitch so bad,” Snell said. “It’s tough, we want to compete. You want to play, and you know, new to being a Dodger, I just wanted to show everyone how great I am and what I can be. Got a little too far ahead of myself. Looking forward to getting back.”
Could Dodgers Pitcher Blake Snell’s Injury Have Been Avoided?

It’s tough to say if the injury list could have been avoided altogether, but had he missed the opening part of the season, you have to think that he would have gotten fully healthy faster and would be pitching right now.
Snell pitched his first two outings in the rotation, completing nine total innings and giving up only two runs over that span.

He was put on the IL shortly after his second start and has since been moved to the 60-day IL.
The Dodgers pitching staff has been absolutely decimated by injuries; it is a statistical miracle, and a credit to the team and the managing of Dave Roberts, that they somehow sit in first place in the NL West.
Snell is currently joined by 13 other members of the pitching staff on the IL.
