Los Angeles Angels Credit Dogs As The Secret To Recent Success

The Los Angeles Angels are playing their best baseball of the season, surging to a seven-game winning streak after a 10–5 comeback win over the Athletics — all without the injured Mike Trout. Sparked by offensive fireworks and an unshakable clubhouse mentality, the Angels are proving they’re not out of any game, no matter the score.

Thursday’s star was Taylor Ward, who launched a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning — his eighth straight game with an extra-base hit, the longest such streak by an Angel since Tim Salmon in 2000. Ward finished with a career-high five RBIs, and afterward, admitted, “The game is slow right now. I feel like I can hit anything.”

Shortstop Zach Neto, who went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, described the team’s mindset in one word: “dogs.”

“We’re sticking to our approach,” Neto said. “We’re enjoying each other, trusting each other. If one guy doesn’t get it done, the guy behind him will. There’s no panic in this team.”

It was the second straight road sweep for the Angels, who also stunned the Dodgers last weekend. Their seven-game streak is the club’s longest since 2022 and their best road run since a franchise-record 11 straight wins away from home in 2018.

Logan O’Hoppe homered for the third straight game, bringing his season total to 14, tied with Ward for sixth in the majors. The offense has averaged 5.9 runs over the last 16 games while the bullpen stepped up Thursday, tossing 4 1/3 scoreless innings after starter Tyler Anderson labored through 4 2/3.

“We know we won’t win like this every time,” manager Ron Washington said, “but we’re doing enough to keep ourselves in games — and we believe we can win them.”

Now 24–25, the Angels return home to face the Marlins and Yankees, looking to keep their momentum alive in front of their home crowd.
