With Kyren Williams back, the Los Angeles Rams put on a performance fans have arguably not experienced since the franchise won Super Bowl LVI. The timing of the offensive explosion could not have come at a better time as the team now sits just one game under the coveted .500 bar. Luckily, the Rams don’t exactly need to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles or the Kansas City Chiefs to get back on track. Rather, they need to win over the limping Cleveland Browns. Here is the key to victory in the Rams vs Browns.
Keys To Victory In Rams Vs Browns
While Matthew Stafford was able to throw for four touchdowns for the first time since Week 6 of 2021, it was the running game that made defenses think twice about their game plans. So far this year, there’s been a version of the team with Williams and without. Without Williams, the offense has looked as rough as any in the Sean McVay era. With the former Fighting Irish back in the backfield, the team has looked entirely different.
Now, almost like a perfect puzzle piece filling in a picture, the Browns are coming to town with a vaunted defense in all areas except their running defense. They lead the league in passing defense, so don’t expect another four-touchdown game from Matthew Stafford. However, when it comes to rushing yards per game, the Browns defense has surrendered 105.9, which ranks 12th in the NFL per ESPN statistics. It still is a formidable unit, but it is the clear weakness of that side of the ball.
The Browns will have a backup quarterback playing in the game in the form of either Dorian Thompson-Robinson or Joe Flacco. Thompson-Robinson is questionable for the contest. However, regardless of the player, the Rams have to feel confident that if they can get a lead, the backup quarterback won’t be able to be clutch enough to throw the team’s way to a comeback. The best way to do that will be with the running game, which is when Kyren Williams comes into play.
The running back rushed just 16 times last week for 143 yards, meaning that after about a month off, his legs should still be fresh. With Royce Freeman getting quality carries as well, there should be limited worries about Williams taking too many hits. Freeman rushed 13 times for 77 yards and a touchdown last week.
Williams has started his return on a roll. Will he keep the momentum going?
