While most have the Los Angeles Rams selecting a player to bolster their pass rush or secondary, Jordan Schultz, NFL Insider from Bleacher Report has heard buzz about the Rams being in the mix for Michael Penix. He mentions the Rams to be a sleeper while on the Pat McAfee Show.
The suggestion was greeted with ohs and ahhs from the panel of co-hosts.
Los Angeles Rams Seismic Shift Changed Everything
With the four pillars of Rams football in place, the Rams Super Bowl window was well defined. With Sean McVay, Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and… Aaron Donald… the Rams were well-positioned to make another Super Bowl run over the next 2-3 seasons. Now, without Donald, that apple cart is overturned.
If the thinking has changed that drastically, taking a chance on a quarterback is a good move.

Penix Draft Profile
If the Rams were to target him, they aren’t currently sitting in the ideal spot. His mock draft consensus, has him going in the late first or early second round. With QBs likely to go early and often in this draft, late first will likely be the reality. At 19 and 54 the Rams would have to reach for him. Ideally, they would flip pick 19 for a later pick and add more picks in a subsequent round.
What Schultz likes about Penix is his formidable size. He is 6’2″ 216 lbs, with an 81″ wingspan and 10.5″ hands, the largest non-lineman in the draft class.
He has been compared to everyone from Lamar Jackson and C.J. Stroud to Tua Tagovailoa, Geno Smith, and Zach Wilson.
Penix is a bold and assertive quarterback who can sling the ball with precision in short passing plays or take on defenders deep down the field.
However, he struggles with consistency in important aspects like his throwing mechanics, reading defenses in the middle of the field, and handling pressure. Spending a year or two under Matthew Stafford would definitely benefit Penix
Despite these challenges, his confidence in his arm strength and his fearless approach to attacking all areas of the field can yield positive results, especially with the right support system in place. The Los Angeles Rams offense offers that in spades.
