The Los Angeles Rams spate of injuries has forced them to get creative with their roster as injured players move to the injured reserve.
The injuries have disproportionately affected the offensive line and the secondary. Outside cornerback, Darious Williams was placed on the injured reserve ahead of the season, in addition to backups Derion Kendrick and Tre’ Tomlinson.
Rams Cut Yeast, Activate Lampkin
On Saturday, the team announced that they would move on from 2022 seventh-round, Russ Yeast, and they would also move 2024 undrafted free agent cornerback Cam Lampkin to the active roster.
After being drafted in 2022, Yeast played as a backup in 2022, primarily at free safety and on special teams. He racked up 20 tackles in his rookie year. By 2023, he moved into the starting rotation playing 71 percent of the defensive snaps at free safety and as the nickel corner.
Over the 2024 offseason, the Rams invested heavily at safety. They signed Kamren Curl, and John Johnson III and drafted Kamren Kinchens. Quentin Lake also emerged as the team’s top slot corner. The result is Yeast playing just one defensive snap in the Rams season opener against the Detroit Lions.
Yeast’s defacto replacement, Lampkin, was picked up by the Rams this year as a UDFA from Washington State. Lampkin played in each Rams preseason game before being cut and signed to the practice squad.
In those games, he played primarily as a wide corner and not one snap in the slot.
With this move, the entire second string is made up of rookies, third-rounder Kinchens, and undrafted Josh Wallace, Charles Woods, Lampkin, and Jaylen McCollough.
Both starting DBs Cobie Durant and Quentin Lake were among those on the injury report. Both are expected to play.
