Los Angeles Rams Front Office Exec Could Get Plucked Away For Future GM Role

Ever since Sean McVay was hired by the Los Angeles Rams, the entire NFL has been trying to emulate what has been created in LA. Seemingly every year, a member of McVay’s coaching staff is hired away as a coordinator or head coach. The same can be said about the front office.

Just take a look at the current playoff picture:

  • Rams – NFC West Champs
  • Vikings – HC Kevin O’Connell, former Rams OC – Clinched Playoffs
  • Lions – GM Brad Holmes, former Rams FO Exec (Jared Goff QB) – Clinched Playoffs
  • Packers – HC Matt Lafleur, former Rams OC – Clinched Playoffs
  • Buccaneers – OC Liam Cohen, former Rams OC – NFC South Leader
  • Falcons – HC Raheem Morris, former Rams DC – In The Hunt
  • Bengals – HC Zac Taylor, former Rams OC – In The Hunt

The Rams have their fingerprints all over the NFL.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer just dropped his “Hot Names To Watch For Future GM Jobs” and, of course, a member of the Los Angeles Rams was included.

Los Angeles Rams Director Of Pro Scouting John McKay Named To Future GM Watchlist

The McKay name holds a lot of weight in the NFL, and even more so in the City of Los Angeles. McKay’s grandfather, of the same name, was a legendary coach for the USC Trojans and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His father, Rich McKay, is the CEO of the Atlanta Falcons.

From Breer’s article:

[McKay] has quickly become a vital piece of Les Snead’s personnel department. He joined up with the team upon its move to L.A., and has been aboard for the entire Sean McVay era, climbing from scouting assistant to scouting director over the last nine seasons, after getting his career started at the league office.

In reality, McKay might still be a few years away, but if teams are looking to grasp any of the Rams’ fairy dust, then one team might jump early and snatch him away.

While Les Snead and Tony Pastoors are the leaders of the Los Angeles Rams philosophy and roster construction, McKay is certainly a brain in the trust and a rising star in the league.

Even if it does not happen this offseason, do not be surprised when John McKay is promoted down the line.
