The Los Angeles Dodgers have been active this offseason, included in just about every MLB rumor, but the team continues to explore potential additions to their roster. While re-signing outfielder Teoscar Hernández remains on the table, they are exploring alternative options.
Bleacher Report’s Julia Stumbaugh recently suggested that the team may be pursuing Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki via trade. This development highlights general manager Brandon Gomes’s proactive approach to rebuilding a championship-quality roster.
Los Angeles Dodgers Rumor: Seeking Trade For Seiya Suzuki
“The Dodgers have reportedly considered deals for Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr. or Chicago Cubs right fielder Seiya Suzuki, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal,” Stumbaugh wrote. “Suzuki holds a full no-trade clause, so he has a say in whether or not he would be heading to Los Angeles in a potential trade. He reportedly doesn’t want to stick with the DH position he assumed for the end of the 2024 season (h/t Jordan Bastian), so being offered a spot in the Dodgers outfield could be enough to draw him to California.”
This move would come close to replacing Hernandez. Suzuki’s successful 2024 season with the Chicago Cubs, hitting .283/.366/.482 with 21 home runs and 73 RBIs doesn’t match Hernandez’s career season, but regression can be expected from Hernandez.
Suzuki’s significant contract will undoubtedly be a factor in any potential trade negotiations. The Cubs may be more inclined to part with him if they can recoup a portion of their investment.
To facilitate a trade, the Dodgers may need to offer a substantial return, potentially including a promising young pitcher like Bobby Miller. This type of package could incentivize the Cubs to take on a portion of Suzuki’s contract and facilitate a mutually beneficial trade.
