Dodgers Down To Last Option After Missing Out On Trade To Rival

The Los Angeles Dodgers were actively pursuing a high-leverage reliever this offseason, with Devin Williams emerging as a top target. However, the New York Yankees are finalizing a trade to acquiring the Brewers closer, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

The Yankees acquired the 30-year-old for starting pitcher Nestor Cortes and infield prospect Caleb Durbin.

Just yesterday, Ken Rosenthal reported that he expected the Dodgers to land either Williams or sign, free-agent, reliever Tanner Scott. With Williams out of the trade market, expect LA to zero in on Scott to flesh out their bullpen.

Their interest in Scott is not new. They were among the finalists to acquire him at the 2024 trade deadline before he was ultimately traded to the San Diego Padres (via Jon Heyman of The New York Post).

Scott enjoyed a stellar 2024 season, posting a 1.75 ERA with 84 strikeouts in 72 innings pitched between the Padres and Marlins. He continued his strong performance into the postseason, pitching 4.1 scoreless innings in the NLDS.

MLB analyst Jim Bowden projects Scott to command a four-year, $60 million contract in free agency.

Despite several big moves this offseason the Dodgers are far from done building out their team in an effort to go back-to-back in the World Series — a feat unmatched in 24 years. The most present targets are Japanese fireballer, Roki Sasaki and fan favorite Teoscar Hernandez.
