What Position Should The Chargers Draft At 21?
Vote Below
Wide Receiver
–Keenan Allen and Mike Williams have been injured and lack vertical speed
-It’s impossible to give your offense too many weapons, especially with Justin Herbert running the show.
-This year’s draft isn’t stocked with receivers and there isn’t one that is universally loved by the top draft gurus. Jordan Addison– USC, Quentin Johnston– TCU, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba– Ohio State, will all likely go in the first round.
Tight End
-Herbert hasn’t had a top-end player at the position so far. Seems to be the most consensus of the Chargers draft targets
-It could unlock a whole new wrinkle of the game plan under new OC Kellen Moore. Dalton Shultz was in the top five most targeted tight ends in each of the last two seasons.
-The Tight End draft class is loaded with talent. Michael Mayer– Notre Dame, Dalton Kincaid– Utah, and Luke Musgrave– Oregon State Beavers are mocked to go in the first round.
Edge Rusher
-The Chargers have Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack, but nothing behind that. They are also very expensive. Getting one of the first-round talents from this draft will allow them to build for the future
-Brandon Staley loves to add defensive toys
-Edge rusher is the most important player on defense.
Two or three edge rushers will come off the board before 21, but Myles Murphy– Clemson, Lukas Van Ness– Iowa, and Nolan Smith– Georgia, should all be available at 21.
Offensive Line
-The Chargers drafted two first-round offensive linemen in the last two drafts.
-Protecting Herbert is a high priority
-A good deep draft class across all line positions
Defensive Back
-Plenty of question marks in the Chargers defensive backfield. Some of which may be addressed in free agency.
–JC Jackson has not panned out so far
The draft class has a lot of athleticism, but not many complete players.
Running Back
–Austin Ekeler is seeking a trade, leaving them without a true starting quality back
-Picking an RB in the first round is nearly verboten in the NFL.
-The draft class is one of the best in years. Because running backs have become undervalued it could be an inefficiency the Chargers could exploit by getting a true game-changing back that in years past would have gone in the top 10.
–Bijan Robinson– Texas and Jahmyr Gibbs– Alabama could both be available at 21
