While much of the Los Angeles Chargers organization is focused on winning their first playoff game in seven years by beating the Houston Texans on Saturday, their college scouts are hard at work identifying which talented player they will add in the upcoming NFL Draft (It is only three and a half month away, mind you.)
The 33rd Team just released their first mock draft of the post-regular season calendar. While the Chargers are among the 14 teams that don’t have a cemented spot in the draft due to a playoff berth, their current spot is the 25th pick in the first round.
With that pick, NFL Draft Lead, Kyle Crabbs sent Penn State Tight End Tyler Warren to LA.
Los Angeles Chargers Pick Tyler Warren With The 25th Pick
2024 Stats: Receptions 98 | Yards: 1,158 | Avg: 11.8 | TD: 8
The 6 foot 6, 257-pound senior possesses a strong frame that allows him to play in-line, as a wingback, and even as a fullback. His long arms are an asset, providing him with a large catch radius and an advantage when blocking. He’s a physically imposing player who excels in the physical aspects of the game and isn’t afraid of contact. Notably, he saw a significant increase in his receiving production during the 2024 season.
However, Warren’s stiff movement can limit his route tree. His ability to quickly change direction may need further development.
Crabbs wrote of Warren’s fit with the Chargers
The Chargers’ identity under Jim Harbaugh is well-established after just one season. If the Chargers are going to keep the heat on the rest of the AFC field, however, they’ll need to continue to tool for the grand vision of who Harbaugh aspires to be. Few players are more versatile in this year’s class than Penn State’s Tyler Warren — a physical pass-catching tight end who can play in the core, from the backfield, or flexed into the slot. As the Chargers look to impose their will on the opposition into the future, having players like this who can still generate big plays in the passing game creates quite the challenge to prepare for.
