With the first selection for the Los Angeles Chargers, I believe that the Bolts should select offensive lineman Grey Zabel. Zabel is a prospect that has risen dramatically this past week because of his time at the Senior Bowl. The FCS prospect dominated the line of scrimmage and had incredible performances against some of the nation’s best defensive prospects.

The Chargers have two of the best tackles in the league, so why would they want to take another tackle? The answer: because of Zabel’s versatility. Zabel has spent time playing every position on the offensive line throughout his time in college. With a need for help at the offensive line, Zabel may be the best offensive line prospect in the draft when all is said and done.

According to PFF, the 6’6′ 305 pound North Dakota State prospect is currently ranked as the 26th best prospect. Zabel constantly improved during his time with North Dakota State and would surely fit alongside Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater.

2nd Round, 54th overall: Jayden Higgins, Wide Reciever, Iowa State

With the Los Angeles Chargers 2nd Round pick I selected Iowa State Cyclone Jayden Higgins. Higgins is another prospect who found success during his time at the Senior Bowl. The Cyclone offense was one of the best in the Big 12. One of the biggest reasons for that was Jayden Higgins and his speed.

Ladd McConkey was a superstar for the Chargers this past season. Pairing Higgins alongside the Pro Bowler could give the Chargers one of the best duos in the league. The Bolts need a ton of help on the offensive side of the ball. Higgins would completely revitalize the Chargers offense.

Jayden Higgins is currently the 56th-ranked prospect according to PFF. The 6’4′ 215-pound Cyclone prospect finished his career with 227 receptions, 3317 total yards, and 28 touchdowns.

3rd Round, 86th overall: Mason Taylor, Tight End, LSU

The Los Angeles Chargers have struggled in the Tight End department since the departure of Gerald Everett last offseason. With the 3rd Round selection, I think the Bolts should address this need by selecting LSU’s Mason Taylor. Taylor is a very consistent playmaker who has spent time with several successful offenses at LSU.

Another offensive playmaker who could help in the passing and run game would be a home run selection for the Bolts. Taylor has plenty of size and could offer exceptional blocking as well as a set of hands in the passing game. The running offense would have an opportunity to explode with another big body like Taylor on the squad.

Mason Taylor is currently the 87th-ranked prospect according to PFF. The 6’5′ 255 pound Tiger prospect finished his college career with 129 receptions, 1308 total yards, and 6 touchdowns through 3 seasons.

4th Round, 122nd overall: Jack Kiser, Linebacker, Notre Dame

In the 4th Round, I finally have the Los Angeles Chargers addressing the defensive side of the ball. Jack Kiser was part of an impressive defense that led the Fighting Irish to compete in the National Championship this past season. Kiser had a massive impact in every game he played for the Irish and could have a significant role on a Chargers defense.

With many members of the Bolts’ linebacker core potentially leaving the team through Free Agency, Kiser would be an excellent replacement through the draft. Kiser would bring a level of leadership that the Chargers need on the defensive side of the ball. He is also slightly older than the average linebacker prospect which would bring much-needed maturity.

Jack Kiser is currently the 123rd-ranked prospect according to PFF. The 6’2′ 231 Notre Dame prospect finished his 5-year career with the Irish with 276 total tackles, 7 forced fumbles, and 6 sacks.
