Los Angeles Chargers Land Home Run Pick In Daniel Jeremiah’s First Mock Draft

The Los Angeles Chargers surprised many people when they made the playoffs in Jim Harbaugh’s first year as head coach. Much has been made about the turnaround, and many, rightfully so, have credited Coach Harbaugh and his ability to infuse the culture.

While this is true, it is also true that the offense needs to improve substantially if they intend to do more than just make the playoffs.

Justin Herbert is one of the best Quarterbacks in the entire NFL, but he could certainly use more weapons at his disposal.

Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network (and the Chargers color commentary on Radio) just released his first mock draft and who he has the Chargers selecting is an absolute home run.

The selection of Michigan Tight End Colston Loveland just makes too much sense for the Chargers.

The ties are obvious as Jim Harbaugh recruited and coached Loveland while he was at Michigan. He was instrumental in their National Title run in 2023 and was the focal point of the passing offense in 2024.

He would instantly come in and be a mainstay in the offense. Will Dissley had a breakout season, and will still remain involved, but his skill set is geared more towards the running game. He demonstrated that he can be a threat in the passing game, but Loveland would be an immediate upgrade in that regard.

After Dissly, Hayden Hurst, Tucker Fisk, and Stone Smartt are all free agents. They can certainly re-sign one or all of them, but if they do not, the tight end position becomes a need in the draft, not just a want.

The only concern at all about the Chargers taking Loveland at 22 has nothing to do with the player or the fit but the fact that he might not even be available at 22.

Loveland and Tyler Warren out of Penn State are far and away the top two tight ends in the class. Jeremiah has Warren getting drafted 7th overall to the Jets. That leaves 15 picks for Loveland to make it through to the Chargers.

There are plenty of tight end needy teams ahead of them, including the division-rival Broncos at 20.

Colston Loveland to the Los Angeles Chargers is a match made in football heaven, but it might take trading up in the draft to make it happen.
