The Los Angeles Chargers have long needed a reliable option at tight end and it has become even more important not that Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman are running the show. The last time the two worked together, they had Pro Bowler, Vernon Davis. When Roman was in Baltimore with the Ravens he had All-Pro tight end Mark Andrews.
While missing their top-receiving tight end Hayden Hurst, who was just put on injured reserve, they have relied on Will Dissly, who is far from an elite pass catcher. Despite this, he is the team’s second-most target receiver.
Bleacher Report solves this by mocking Harold Fannin Jr. to LA. The 6 foot 4, 230 lbs Bowling Green tight end leads all his position in yards (1295), touchdowns (9), and yards after the catch (719).
Chargers Add TE In Mock Draft
Here is BR’s case;
“It’s been fun watching the Chargers offense grow during the first year of Harbaugh’s time in Los Angeles.
As Greg Roman and Justin Herbert become more familiar with one another, the offense will continue to grow in different directions. One thing we know about a Jim Harbaugh offense is that there are going to be a lot of multiple tight end sets. So, while the Chargers gave Will Dissly a decent contract and use him a lot, they could draft another option.
Harold Fannin Jr. is a more explosive offense weapon.
Here’s Dame Parson on the YAC machine:
“Overall, Harold Fannin Jr. projects as a highly functioning pass-catching tight end with alignment versatility. Creative offensive play callers are best if you want to maximize his skill set to its fullest potential. He will be able to generate favorable matchups based on his alignment fluidity.”
A sticking point for Harbaugh might be Fannin’s ability as a blocker. While he has an admirable 77 grade in run blocking from Pro Football Focus, he has a dismal 35.9 as a pass blocker.
