The NFL has announced fines for five players involved in a fight that occurred during the Los Angeles Chargers‘ 22-10 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
Chargers wide receiver Joshua Palmer was fined $11,255, while Raiders cornerback Jack Jones was fined $5,472. Both players were ejected from the game following the altercation.
Additionally, Raiders defensive tackle Christian Wilkins and outside linebacker Maxx Crosby were fined $11,255 each for their involvement in the fight. Raiders safety Marcus Epps received the largest fine of $11,817.
Palmer Only Chargers Player Fined From Altercation
The tussle began after the Raiders stopped Chargers running back Gus Edwards on a two-point conversion attempt. Palmer and Jones became entangled, sparking a larger brawl that involved multiple players from both teams.
The scuffle escalated, involving multiple players from both teams.
Chargers receiver Quentin Johnston attempted to intervene but was pulled down by Raiders outside linebacker Maxx Crosby. Eventually, Chargers coaches, including head coach Jim Harbaugh and linebackers coach NaVorro Bowman, stepped in to break up the fight. Bowman even tried to energize the crowd by waving his hands.
Despite Palmer’s claims that he did not throw a punch, he was still fined for his involvement in the fight. He seems to be prepared to contest the fine, saying he will ‘fight the battle in NFL court.’
Jones, who was also fined, maintained his innocence and expressed his desire to move on from the situation.
“I mean … it’s on video. I ain’t got to really say nothing about it,” Jones said Wednesday. “Y’all seen every angle. Every angle’s posted all over social media. … They said I wasn’t going to get suspended, so, on to next week. We’re on to Baltimore.”
The Chargers will now prepare for their Week 2 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, while the Raiders will face the Baltimore Ravens.
