Los Angeles Chargers Reportedly Request Interviews With Dallas Cowboys And Los Angeles Rams Coordinators

The Los Angeles Chargers are casting a very wide net as they search for their next head coach, and that could now include the defensive coordinators of both the Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys.

After nearly three seasons as head coach, the Chargers decided to live up to the rumors and fired head coach Brandon Staley — and general manager Tom Telesco — after their Week 14 loss to the Denver Broncos. While the move was not completely unsurprising, Staley did finish with a winning record in his first two seasons and won 10 games in 2022.

However, with the team headed to a losing year in 2023, the Los Angeles front office showed that the 41-year-old was not living up to the expectations they had for the roster this season. Following his ouster and the close of the regular season, there has been a lot of speculation around the top contenders for a head coach job that is seen as the most sought-after in the NFL right now.

The most notable names linked to the position have been Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh and legendary New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. While both probably will have a conversation with the team in the near future, the organization is reportedly doing its due diligence and planning to talk with every worthwhile candidate available.

Following a report that claimed the team would be talking with 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, Bleacher Report NFL insider Jordan Schultz revealed that both the Charges and Commanders have put in requests to speak with Cowboys DC Dan Quinn about their opening.

Furthermore, ESPN NFL insider Tom Pelissero revealed that LA has also put in a request to talk to Rams DC Raheem Morris.

The Dallas Cowboys defense has been one of the best in the league all season and it is unsurprising that Quinn is again up for head coaching jobs this year. Morris is another well-respected defensive coordinator who has had previous success at stops in Tampa Bay and Atlanta. Unlike Quinn, he also has head coach experience with those two aforementioned franchises.
