A new report reveals some of the names expected to be on the Los Angeles Chargers head coach wish list, and it includes Michigan Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh.
The Chargers are just days away from finally finishing up what has been a miserable season that started in 2023. Heading into their Week 18 game against the Kansas City Cheifs, the team owns a 5-11 record and there is a good chance they could end their campaign on a five-game losing streak.
Yet, before they can look ahead to improving a disappointing roster in 2024, they have to find the people who will build and develop a winning team next season. After firing head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco last month, the organization must fill two of its most important positions in the coming weeks.
While it will not be an easy task, recent reports claimed that the Chargers’ head coach and GM jobs will be some of the most sought-after in the league due to quarterback Justin Herbert leading the offense. So, Los Angeles should be able to land the best candidates available in this year’s pool.
Jim Harbaugh Near The Top Of Los Angeles Chargers Head Coach List
With some great options on the market, it looks like the Chargers have an early list of the coaches they want to talk to first and it includes some huge and interesting names. On Monday, CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson spilled the tea on the latest news on the team’s GM and head coach search.
“I’m told the expectation at this time for the Chargers is that they’ll run their head coach & general manager searches simultaneously, per source,” Anderson wrote on X. “Some early names surfacing around the HC vacancy at this preliminary stage include Dan Quinn, Eric Bienemy, Jim Harbaugh and possibly Bill Belichick — who all have extensive postseason and/or Super Bowl experience.”
Quinn is currently the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys while Bieniemy oversees the offense of the Washington Commanders. Both have been head coach candidates for various teams in recent years. While there has been a great deal of speculation that Belichick’s run in New England could come to an end after this week.
Harbaugh has consistently avoided answering questions about his future before and after the Wolverines’ college football playoffs win on Monday. But he recently hired an agent with expertise in setting up contracts for NFL head coaches.
