UCLA Football Eyes HBCU Football Great As Veteran Coach For Quarterback Room

Matt Fortuna of the Inside Zone reported that UCLA Football is targeting Ted White to be their next quarterbacks coach.

Most recently, White was the Houston Texans quarterbacks coach. The Texans drafted CJ Stroud after hiring White. Stroud went on to win the 2023 Rookie of the Year award, throwing for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. He led the team to the playoffs for the first time in 4 years.

The Bruins currently have two redshirt seniors on the roster at quarterback, Ethan Garbers and Collin Schlee. Both took snaps last season in rotation with the now transferred, Dante Moore. Garbers threw for 1136 and 11 touchdowns in six games last season.

White started his coaching career in 2006 as QB coach for Texas Southern. He also coached for his Alma Mater, Howard where he served as assistant head coach, offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach. He was the offensive coordinator for Grambling State. He has also held the offensive coordinator title at Prairie View A&M, Arkansas Pine-Bluff, and Southern.

White spent a season coaching the quarterbacks in the XFL for the DC Defenders.

While playing football at Howard (1995-1998, White was nicknamed “Sweet Flight”. He still holds the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference passing yards record with 9,808 and the single-game record, 561. His 92 career touchdowns still tops the record books as well.
