One of the most popular figures in Los Angeles Chargers franchise history is set to join Jim Harbaugh’s staff in Southern California.
NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo reported on Tuesday that Harbaugh has hired former Chargers center Nick Hardwick as their assistant offensive line coach.
Hardwick, 42, was a third-round pick of the then-San Diego Chargers back in 2004. The Purdue product spent all 11 of his NFL seasons with the Chargers and is considered a franchise legend. He earned a Pro Bowl spot back in 2006 and started all 136 games in which he appeared at center during his time with the Chargers.
The former NFLer’s only previous coaching experience came with Westfield High School in Indiana from 2022-23. He coached the offensive line for that team.
Los Angeles Chargers Continue To Add To Coaching Staff With Nick Hardwick
Hardwick will work under new offensive line coach Mike Devlin as Harbaugh continues to fill out his coaching staff after being handed a lucrative long-term deal earlier this offseason.
Devlin came over from the Baltimore Ravens where he served as their assistant offensive line coach from 2022-23. He was the New York Jets’ offensive line coach (2013-14) and served in the same role with the Houston Texans (2015-20).
