New Prop Bet: When Will Jalen Ramsey Get His First Interception Of 2022?

Jalen Ramsey has been considered one of the best cornerbacks in football for much of his six-year career. Last season was one of his best and all signs point to Ramsey continuing that trend.

What we at the LAFB Network want to know is when will Jalen Ramsey snag his first pick of the season. We have partnered with PlayPickup.com to create a prop bet asking just that question.

[pickup_prop id=”24508″]Jalen Ramsey had one of the best statistical seasons of his career last year. He intercepted four passes. This is second only to his 2017 campaign when he got five picks. It’s not a coincidence that 2021 and 2017 are also the seasons in which he was targeted the most by quarterbacks. In 2017 he was targeted 107 times and 117 in 2021. In 2019 and 2020 he was targeted 139 times COMBINED!

It’s hard to intercept passes when no one is throwing your way. He picked off two passes in those two seasons.

This raises two questions. Why did teams decide to throw at Jalen Ramsey so much last season? And will they continue to in 2022?

To answer the first one you just have to look at where Ramsey was playing. In 2021, Ramsey played 25 percent of his total snaps in the slot. When lined up wide he was used nearly equally on the left and the right. In 2019 he played only 10 percent of snaps in the slot and was on the left side 60 percent of the time when lined up outside. Those numbers were moving in that direction in 2020, but not as much as last season.

All that to say, the Rams moved Jalen Ramsey a lot making him harder to avoid. Boom! More targets, more interceptions

To answer the second question, the addition of Troy Hill will allow Jalen Ramsey even more flexibility to play where he will be the most dangerous. Hill adds a level of versatility that Darious Williams didn’t bring. So quarterbacks are going to have to throw at Ramsey even more often than last season.

Jalen Ramsey has never picked off a pass in the very first game of the year. His first interceptions have come in weeks 15, 3, 8, 16, 7, and 2.

Josh Allen has thrown an interception in the opening game once in his career. That was in 2019 against the Jets. He threw two in that game. He also threw one pick when they played the Rams in 2020.

Kyler Murray has thrown eight interceptions in the seven games against the Rams and has thrown at least one pick in five of those games.

The quarterback situations with Atlanta and San Francisco are currently unclear.
