The Seattle Seahawks are at a bit of a crossroads currently. The Seahawks are no longer known for having the ferocious defense known as the “Legion of Boom”. The players that were featured on that legendary unit are gone. They haven’t had a reliable running back since Marshawn Lynch left town. The team is also trying to figure out what to do with the patchwork offensive line that continues to be untrustworthy. But, one constant that can lead this team into the next era is their quarterback, Russell Wilson.
What Can be Expected of Russell Wilson and His Pass Catchers?
The Best In The West
Over the past few years, Wilson has remained one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Unfortunately for Wilson, the Seahawks can’t figure out what to do with their putrid offensive line. Because of the sub-par play, Wilson has to escape the pocket and run for his life far too often. Hopefully, the line can hold up for Wilson this season, and keep their unquestioned leader upright and healthy for 16 games.
The Pass Catchers
The Seahawks are going to expect big things from their wide receiver group this year. Doug Baldwin is the number one receiver in Seattle and has been for a few seasons now. Outside of Baldwin, however, the team is looking for more consistency. Tyler Lockett has been with the team since 2015 and recently earned a big contract extension. If the contract extension indicates anything, it shows that the Seahawks believe he is the number two receiver and should produce as such. After Baldwin and Lockett, the team is still looking for answers. Second-year wide receiver David Moore had a good showing in the preseason. He made some tough catches and the Seahawks coaches are hoping he can handle an expanded role once week one arrives.
Brandon Marshall is a new addition to the roster this season. Marshall has had a couple of rough seasons and many assumed that his career was over. His value will come in the form of leadership in the locker room. With that being said, Marshall can still be effective on the field. Hopefully, he will be a reliable end zone target for Wilson.
Outside of Baldwin, Lockett, and Marshall, there are not many other reliable pass-catching options. Last season the team had Jimmy Graham as their tight end, this year it’s Nick Vannett. Vannett will most likely be used more for blocking than anything else, but there will be some balls thrown his way in the end zone.
Changes Loom?
Seattle has their work cut out for them this season. The once feared team from the Pacific notrth west has fallen on hard times. If they fall below .500 after their last game, there might be big changes coming in Seattle.
