UCLA Bruins Lose Top Defender To Transfer Portal

It’s safe to say that it has been a rough couple of weeks for UCLA Bruins fans. After losing embarrassingly to Cal in the year’s final game, freshman 5-star QB Dante Moore entered his name in the transfer portal. Then, D’Anton Lynn was plucked by the school across town to become the new defensive coordinator of the USC Trojans. Now, they have been hit with another blow.

Safety Kamari Ramsey is the latest UCLA Bruin to enter his name in the transfer portal.

Ramsey was a 4-star recruit out of Sierra Canyon High School in 2022. He became one of the bright young players in the secondary this season and certainly benefited from the coaching of D’Anton Lynn who played defensive back and coached the secondary at the NFL level before becoming the DC at UCLA.

Ramsey finished the season with 40 tackles, 1 interception, and 4 passes defended. He will have plenty of suitors in the transfer portal, but don’t be shocked if he makes the easy commute and follows his DC to USC.

This is another big blow to the body that is the UCLA Football program. The UCLA 2024 recruiting class currently ranks 59th, according to 247 Sports, which is not super surprising considering the tenacity that Head Coach Chip Kelly approaches recruiting with. He has built some success at UCLA through the portal, but at the moment, with no DC, and the current exodus of players to the NFL Draft and the portal, Kelly has his work cut out for himself.
