2018 7-Round Mock Draft

Round 1

1. Cleveland Browns: Sam Darnold – QB – USC

John Dorsey was brought in to turn this franchise around. He takes Darnold first overall to lead the Browns to glory.

2. New York Giants: Saquon Barkley – HB – Penn State

The Giants add the best running back in the draft to take the pressure off of their aging quarterback.

3. New York Jets (From IND): Baker Mayfield – QB – Oklahoma

The Jets paid a hefty price to move into the third spot and get the reigning Heisman winner and hopefully the new face of their franchise.

4. Cleveland Browns (From HOU): Bradley Chubb – EDGE – North Carolina State

Bradley Chubb

Chubb and Myles Garrett? Gregg Williams defense will be scary good with those two coming off the edge.

5. Denver Broncos: Josh Rosen – QB – UCLA

Josh Rosen

QB Prospect Josh Rosen. Sports Al Dente Illustration via Ryan Bertrand.

John Elway brought in Case Keenum but competition breeds success and Rosen is a top prospect with some things to prove.

6. Indianapolis Colts (From NYJ): Quenton Nelson – OG – Notre Dame

Quenton Nelson

Offensive Line Prospect Quenton Nelson. Sports Al Dente Illustration via Ryan Bertrand

The offensive line has to improve if they want to keep Andrew Luck healthy. Nelson is the best lineman here and will transform this line.

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Minkah Fitzpatrick – DB – Alabama

Minkah Fitzpatrick NFL Draft Profile

Safety or corner, it doesn’t matter. Fitzpatrick has starting potential at either one and Tampa has a need at both.

8. Chicago Bears: Tremaine Edmunds – LB – Virginia Tech

Tremaine Edmunds NFL Draft Profile

They picked the franchise quarterback last year and take Edmunds to lead the defense this year. Perfect fit for the Bears defense.

9. San Francisco 49ers: Calvin Ridley – WR – Alabama

Calvin Ridley NFL Draft Profile

They really need to build around Jimmy Garroppolo. The former Crimson Tide receiver gives Jimmy G a nice weapon for the next decade.

10. Oakland Raiders: Denzel Ward – CB – Ohio State

Denzel Ward NFL Draft Profile

Ward and Gareon Conley will create a solid tandem in the secondary to try and slow down those AFC West passing attacks.

11. Miami Dolphins: Roquan Smith – LB – Georgia

Roquan Smith

Miami had one of the worst linebacking groups in the league. With Raekwon McMillan returning from injury and now Smith, things could be very different in 2018.

12. Buffalo Bills (from CIN): Josh Allen – QB – Wyoming

Josh Allen NFL Draft Profile

The Bills take the quarterback everyone seems to disagree on. If he reaches the potential that some are anticipating, then getting him at 12 is good value.

13. Washington Redskins: Vita Vea – DT – Washington

Vita Vea NFL Draft Profile

Former Washington Huskies Defensive Tackle Vita Vea. Photo Illustration: Ryan Bertrand.

The Redskins defense has a lot of holes that need to be filled. Vea can plug the hole in the middle.

14. Green Bay Packers: Jaire Alexander – CB – Louisville

Green Bay can stand to add a few playmakers on their defense. They add one at cornerback with their first pick.

15. Arizona Cardinals: Derwin James – S – Florida State

Derwin James

I know that quarterback is being thrown around as the number one priority for Arizona but I think Sam Bradford can get them through a year or two. James replaces the recently released Tyrann Mathieu.

16. Baltimore Ravens: Mike McGlinchey – OT – Notre Dame

Mike McGlinchey

The offensive line needs help and putting McGlinchey opposite of Ronnie Stanley is too good to pass up.

17. Los Angeles Chargers: Da’Ron Payne – DT – Alabama

Da'Ron Payne NFL Draft Profile

Adding Payne to an already impressive defensive line will give the Bolts one of the best front fours in the league.

18. Seattle Seahawks: Taven Bryan – DT – Florida

Taven Bryan

Jarran Reed and Taven Bryan will lay the foundation of a rebuilding defense in Seattle.

19. Dallas Cowboys: D.J. Moore – WR – Maryland

Dez Bryant was shown the door in Dallas so the Cowboys must find some new blood. Allen Hurns was brought in from Jacksonville but more reinforcements are required.

20. Detroit Lions: Isaiah Wynn – OG – Georgia

Isaiah Wynn

Isaiah Wynn. Photo Credit: Georgia Athletics / Sports Al Dente Illustration via Ryan Bertrand

The offensive line is an issue in the Motor City. Wynn is a talented interior lineman who can help open lanes for the Lions running game.

21. Cincinnati Bengals (From BUF): Billy Price – OC – Ohio State

The Bengals offensive line got better when they traded for Cordy Glenn but there is still a ways to go. Price gives them stability at the center or guard position for years to come.

22. Buffalo Bills (From KC): Leighton Vander Esch – LB – Boise State

Leighton Vander Esch

Buffalo needs to replace Preston Brown in the middle of their defense. Vander Esch is built to play middle linebacker in the NFL and luckily for him, he has the skills to play there also.

23. New England Patriots (From LAR): Mason Rudolph – QB – Oklahoma State

Mason Rudolph NFL Draft Profile

Rudolph is a big quarterback with a big arm. He can learn a lot from Tom Brady before he is given the reigns.

24. Carolina Panthers: Marcus Davenport – EDGE – UTSA

Marcus Davenport

Carolina’s pass rush needs an injection of youth in a big way. Davenport provides youth and ability for the Panthers.

25. Tennessee Titans: Harold Landry – EDGE – Boston College

Harold Landry

Landry can give new head coach Mike Vrabel a stud edge rusher who can get after the AFC South quarterbacks.

26. Atlanta Falcons: Maurice Hurst – DT – Michigan

Maurice Hurst

Dontari Poe was not brought back but even if he was Atlanta needs to add a defensive tackle. Hurst had a medical scare earlier in the draft process but seems to be good to go.

27. New Orleans Saints: Dallas Goedert – TE – South Dakota State

I really thought Jimmy Graham would return to New Orleans but that was not the case. The Saints address one of their few voids with the former Jackrabbit.

28. Pittsburgh Steelers: Ronnie Harrison – S – Alabama

Pittsburgh needs help at linebacker but Harrison is one of the more underrated prospects in this draft. Harrison is an upgrade from Sean Davis and can fit nicely with newly acquired Morgan Burnett.

29. Jacksonville Jaguars: Lamar Jackson – QB – Louisville

Lamar Jackson NFL Draft Profile

The Jaguars were one game away from the Super Bowl. Bringing in Jackson to either push Blake Bortles or replace him may put them over the hump.

30. Minnesota Vikings: Will Hernandez – OG – UTEP

Will Hernandez

Minnesota is one of the more complete teams in the league. Adding Hernandez to their offensive improves one of their only “weaknesses”.

31. New England Patriots: Connor Williams – OT – Texas

Connor Williams

Connor Williams. Sports Al Dente Illustration via Ryan Bertrand.

The Patriots lost Nate Solder to free agency so they must find a new anchor. Williams can step right in and be that anchor.

32. Philadelphia Eagles: Derrius Guice – HB – LSU

The Eagles have Jay Ajayi but they made it clear they prefer to use multiple running backs. Guice is a heck of a steal at the 32 spot.

Round 2

33. Cleveland Browns: Kolton Miller – OT – UCLA

34. New York Giants: Rashaan Evans – LB – Alabama
