NFL Week One Overreactions

The NFL is finally back! And with it comes the heartbreak of getting blown out by the Rams for some fans and the triumph of upsetting the mighty Patriots by others. So now that the first week is done and everyone can clearly see how this season is going to go down, let’s take a look at some of the air-tight observations that can be taken away from this week.

The Patriots are done

There’s a scene in Disney’s Mulan where one of the main characters tells Mulan to “pack up, go home, you’re through,” and Patriots’ fans, I’m sorry but that’s you. Brady’s age has finally caught up to him. He was inaccurate on the deep ball and didn’t have an answer to the Chiefs pass rush. Not to mention their defense has more holes in it than swiss cheese.

Basically, the only things the Patriots had going for them was their rushing attack and you can’t win a Super Bowl on that alone. With Edelman out for the season and Danny Amendola questionable with a concussion, things aren’t looking very good for the Patriots in week 2 or the rest of the season for that matter.

Sorry guys, your window is officially closed but hey it was a good run.

The Jaguars are for real

Remember a few weeks ago when Bortles played a little off in the preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Twitter was absolutely railing him?

Well, how stupid they must feel now. Bortles led his team to a 29-7 victory over J.J. Watt and the Houston Texans defense in a gutsy performance completing barely over half of his passes for 125 yards and a touchdown.

See? He’s the real deal, people. Despite Allen Robinson going down with a season-ending injury, the Jags clearly have an all-around talented roster that will take them far into the playoffs.

Sam Bradford is a strong MVP candidate

Captain Checkdown has finally learned how to throw downfield. Bradford looked absolutely dynamic against the burly Saints defense throwing for over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns with no picks.

It’s clear that Bradford will easily contend for the MVP award this season after that performance. It’s always nice to see a player reach the top of his game after seven years. As long as he keeps a good head on his shoulders (although the latter body part is a bit of a concern), Bradford has this award in the bag.

The Bengals won’t score a touchdown all year

I mean this one is a no brainer right? Andy Dalton has always been under constant criticism from fans inside and out of Cincinnati and by God, he earned it this week. He had an excuse last year with both A.J. Green and Tyler Eifert missing significant time but what happened here?

Not only are those two back in action but the Bengals added Joe Mixon to an already talented backfield with Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill. So you have all those pieces around you but you can’t even muster a single touchdown?

There’s no way the Bengals score a touchdown all year if that’s the case.
