Los Angeles Chargers Take Joe Alt In Draft According To Sharp Football Analysis

While many mock drafters have the Chargers going with Brock Bowers or Malik Nabers, Donahue thinks the Chargers will go with Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt.

The 6’9″ 321-pounder has long been considered the top tackle in the draft class and his performance at the NFL Combine only offered further confirmation. His Relative Athletic Score was 9.91 out of 10, 10th best among all participants.

Los Angeles Chargers Draft: Jim Harbaugh Zags, Picks Top D-Lineman In 1st Round

Jim Harbaugh‘s ethos emphasizes building along the offensive and defensive lines first, so this move aligns with that. The Chargers have added an offensive lineman with their first pick in the draft two of the last three seasons, Rashawn Slater in 2021 and Zion Johnson in 2022.

The likely scenario if the Chargers do draft Alt would be to put him at left tackle and move Slater to right tackle. Slater played two seasons at the position while at Northwestern before switching to left tackle in his final season. Moving positions is nothing new to him. In fact he played guard in high school.

Harbaugh said his number one priority for the offense was protecting Justin Herbert, lending more credence to this direction.
