Los Angeles Chargers NFLPA Grades

The Los Angeles Chargers composite score gives them a D-Plus.

The Charger’s highest grade was a ‘B’ in the categories of Head Coach and Nutritionist/Dietician. While failing grades were given in the treatment of families, food/ cafeteria, and locker room. Dean Spanos was given a C-plus, 24th in the league.

The survey reflects answers from the beginning of the 2023 season and concludes in mid-November of 2023. therefore the head coaching grade of a B was for Brandon Staley and doesn’t reflect how Chargers players feel about the Jim Harbaugh hire. A B rating ties Staley as the 23rd-best coach in the league.

The connection of these grades to success is mixed, but the Kansas City Chief received low grades on all criteria, including the F minus for owner, but Andy Ried was given an A-plus.

Likely some of these grades (cafeteria: F, training room: D+, weight room: D+) will improve when the Los Angeles Chargers move to their new facilities in El Segundo in the spring of 2024.

This highlights an anecdote from Jim Harbaugh’s introductory press conference about one of his first orders of business was cleaning and organizing the Charger’s weight room.

“The weight room is, we’re getting it cleaned up right now..” “..Just yesterday. Talk about fulfillment. [We] went in there to Home Depot and got a ShopVac. We’re getting all set. Let’s get it good. When these players come in here, then everything’s organized. And they’re gonna see that things are changing. Things are different.”

For some added context here are the scales used in the grading:
