Coming into week 12, the Los Angeles Chargers find themselves sitting at a pleasant 6-4 record coming off of a huge home win against the Pittsburgh Steelers. They travel to play the 5-5 Denver Broncos, coming off a bye week. Will the Chargers be able to get a huge win against their divisional rival and improve to 7-4?

The last time these two teams played was last season where the Chargers won 19-16 against the Broncos in week 16.

With that being said, let’s take a look at the key matchups that will impact this game, as the Chargers look to keep some momentum going.

Chargers Wide Receivers vs Broncos Secondary

This is a very pivotal matchup that could decide the winner. You are facing one of the best secondaries in the NFL. Rookie corner Patrick Surtain II has been playing great football in recent weeks. Along with star safety Justin Simmons, the Chargers are going to be challenged. However, with star wideouts such as Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, the Chargers should be able to match up with the Broncos.

Similarly, the Chargers must win this matchup. The Broncos have incredible young wide receivers. This starts with Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy. The Chargers secondary must step up this week without Asante Samuel Jr. The Broncos have a deep receiver corps that is incredibly talented and this is going to be a key matchup to watch this week. The battle of the skill position players is going to be pivotal in deciding the winner.

Brandon Staley vs Vic Fangio

The Teacher vs The Student. Brandon Staley learned from Vic Fangio prior to his days as the Rams defensive coordinator. Both coaches are defensive masterminds and it will be interesting to see what these two defensive-minded head coaches will do schematically to throw off the opposing offenses. This is not only a battle of the skill position players but it is also a battle of the trenches and that’s how these two coaches like it.
