Chiefs RB Charcandrick West Released Due To Crowded Backfield

The Kansas City Chiefs released four-year veteran running back Charcandrick West, due to the talented depth of at running back.

West who spent four seasons with the team, was an undrafted free agent out of Abilene Christian University. He was competing for a roster spot with the addition of versatile running back Damien Williams, along with undrafted rookie RB Daryl Williams. The Chiefs have RB Spencer Ware listed as second on the depth chart. West a shifty type of scatback once lead the Chiefs in rushing in 2015.

His most memorable season, featured West rushing for 634 yards on 160 carries while filling in for then-injured all-pro RB Jamaal Charles.West exits to what is considered a successful chapter in his career with the Chiefs. He was plagued by and recovering from several injuries most notably being a concussion. West did not play in the Chiefs 2nd preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Due to his limited practice in training camp and play in the preseason, he became expendable in the Chiefs running back corps. He was cleared by team doctors to practice in full contact drills on Tuesday. Unfortunately for West, he was let go by the Chiefs on Wednesday.

Based on West’s skill set and avoidance of future injuries, he should be picked up by another team quickly. NFL teams in need of a quick and elusive back will benefit from his ability to help a club.

There are multiple NFL teams in need of a backup running back. Teams such as the Buffalo Bills could use a good back up to RB LeSean “Shady” McCoy. Once the NFL 32 teams slim down their final rosters, Charcandrick West will land on his feet somewhere in the AFC or NFC.
