Chiefs First Team Offense To Play A Full Half In Second Preseason Game

Kansas City Chiefs training camp at St.Joseph wrapped up their final practice this week with military appreciation day. The Chiefs return to their training facility in Kansas City to finish the preseason. Their first preseason game against the Houston Texans was less than impressive in crucial areas on offense. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid did not mince words and expressed his concern with the lack of balance with the quarterback and offensive line. The Chiefs first-team offense will play a full half in their second preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Reid and his coaching staff will fully evaluate timing, precision, and cohesive play with the offense by increasing their reps. The Falcons defense is considered one of the best in the NFL to measure improvement.

The Offensive Line Must Improve.

Chiefs offensive line coach Andy Heck identified the OL shortcomings and challenged his group to improve and communicate better with their line calls. After reviewing the Houston game film, Chiefs linemen identified instances which caused the breakdown in protection.

The Offensive Line Pledge To Protect Mahomes

The NFL preseason is an evaluation process, but realistically the Chiefs must play better as a team leading into the regular season. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a less than stellar performance due to poor offensive line protection. The Chiefs offensive line pledged to play more aggressive and adequate to protect the young play caller.

Practice Drills Become Testy During Exercises

The Chiefs offense and defensive line had an intense practice with a scuffle breaking out. Chiefs OT Andrew Wylie and DT Jarvis Jenkins started pushing and shoving after a running play. Only time will tell whether the Chiefs can connect all the dots for an explosive offense.
