Week 2 Fantasy Breakout Players

TJ Yeldon
RB TJ Yeldon of the Jacksonville Jaguars

With week 1 in the books and fans around the league getting their first look at how their teams will shape up, it’s time to take a look at who will break out of their mediocre roles and be thrust into fantasy stardom (at least for week 2). If you are looking for a little more depth or are in between a few players to start, look no further than these fantasy breakouts.

*Breakout – a player that is of mediocre play but for some reason, probably luck, decides to over perform and leave your fantasy opponent shaking his/her head thinking what the hell just happened.

TJ Yeldon RB (@ SD)

With Chris Ivory out of the lineup for at least one more week, Yeldon is primed to command the backfield yet again. In week 1 TJ had 21 carries for 39 with 1 touchdown and added 4 catches on 6 targets for 30 yards. Like most, you are probably thinking those are dog trash numbers, but that came against a Green Bay defense that looked solid. Week 2 will be a much better match up with Yeldon going against a Swiss cheese San Diego rush defense. Look for Yeldon to have18+ rushes for 60 yards and 1 TD on the ground and 5+ catches for 30.

Will Fuller WR (vs. KC)

As much as it pains me to put him on this list, die hard Chiefs fan here, Fuller will go off against the Chiefs D, who have traditionally been weak against the pass. Fuller started his rookie season off the right way with just over 100 yards and 1 TD on 11 targets in week 1 against the Bears. With big play ability and Houston looking to go pass heavy, Fuller is in for a big week. Week 2 projection 5+ catches for 70 yards and 1 TD.

Kyle Rudolph TE (vs. GB)

What can I say TEs are a shaky QBs best friend and that is exactly what they have in the land of a thousand lakes (one or two of those lakes are probably filled with the tears of fans after Blair Walsh’s missed FG in last year’s wild-card game). With the QB situation still up in the air in Minnesota and Green Bay giving up 112 yards and a score to TEs last week, look for Rudolph to scrape together another solid game. I mean who else do they have to pass to? Stefon Diggs? Look for Rudolph to have 6 catches for 80 yards and 1 TD.

Trevor Siemian QB (vs. Ind.)

Alright, so this is a large stretch but bear with me here. If you strictly go by the stats from last weeks 178 yard, 1 TD, 2 INT performance you are missing some crucial details. Siemian played against last year’s number 1 takeaway defense, so yes, a turnover or two was more than likely going to happen. During the first half, Siemian was able to command the offense and move them down the field with ease, not putting up any points due to a blocked pass interception in the backfield and a fumble by a rookie RB. Denver has the #4 receiving core in the NFL so he has the weapons he needs to succeed. Look for him to have a much better week against a bottom of the barrel pass defense. I have him going 250+ with 2 TDs.
