USC Trojans Hire Elite Recruiter As New CB Coach

The USC Trojans continue to add elite talent to their staff and front office.

After extending DC D’Anton Lynn, keeping him away from Penn State who was pushing hard, and bringing the incomparable Rob Ryan on staff as the LB Coach, the Trojans hired away one of the best general managers in the game, Chad Bowden, from their rival Notre Dame.

In terms of offseason hires, USC has knocked every one out of the park and has the fan base buzzing.

But just today they added another elite member to their staff.

USC Trojans Hire Trovon Reed As Cornerbacks Coach

Today, the team announced that they are hiring Trovon Reed as their new cornerbacks coach.

“Trovon Reed is another fantastic addition to our staff,” Coach Riley said. “A rising star in our business, Reed is a talented coach with NFL playing experience. He’s an exceptional recruiter who will surely contribute to our climb as a program. We’re excited to welcome him to USC.”

This is another elite hire by USC Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley.

Prior to joining USC, Reed coached one season at UCF and saw plenty of success. Mac McWilliams and Brandon Adams are both Senior Bowl invites (the only cornerbacks coach in the nation with two players at the premier game).

The former finished the 2024 season with 32 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss including 1 sack, 2 PBUs, 1 INT, and 1 forced fumble. The latter finished with 14 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 2 PBUs, and 2 INTs.

Reed also coached impressive freshman Chasen Johnson. He was a two-time PFF Freshman of the Week. For those that don’t remember, for a short time in December, Johnson was committed to USC after entering the transfer portal. He would then commit to SMU, before eventually ending up back at UCF. Could he now re-enter the portal in the Spring and follow Reed to USC?

To be clear, this hire is an addition to the staff and changes nothing to Doug Belk’s role who is the overall defensive back coach. Reed brings expertise and experience that will help to fill the role left by Taylor Mays when he left to take the job at Washington.

Perhaps the best attribute that Reed brings with him is his recruiting prowess. This is a big-time theme with all of Lincoln Riley’s staff hires as of late. The ability to build relationships and recruit. And now with Chad Bowden as GM, the USC Trojans NIL situation should become one of the best in the Country.

Our friend Marc Kulkin spoke to a source at Auburn who had this to say about the hire:

“I don’t know anything about USCs staff but I promise you he’s the best recruiter yall have. Elite.”

This source might not know about Eric Henderson, Doug Belk, Zach Hanson, and Chad Savage, but that is certainly a ringing endorsement.

Welcome to the USC Trojans family, Trovon Reed.
