USC Football’s effort to revitalize its defense is starting to pay off. Safety, Trey McNutt made his visit official visit to SC over the weekend of May 31st and according to the sources of On3 Sport’s Chad Simmons, they “knocked it out of the park.”
Before the visit, On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gave Ohio State a 76.3 percent chance of landing the Shaker Height, Ohio native. That is now down to 59.4 percent. That is still a significant advantage for the home-state school, but it’s moving in the right direction for the Trojans.
USC Football Shifts Momentum on Top Safety Recruit
USC must have made quite the impression. According to Simmons, the nation’s #2 ranked safety had visited the Buckeyes 10 times, and a year ago was considered an all but, stonecold lock.
“I had a great time at USC,” McNutt told 247 Sports. “My mom and whole family were there. My mom liked the experience and seeing what the school had to offer me. I think USC is a realistic option for me. I think they’re going to be a big factor in the my rest of my recruitment. They set the tone with this visit.”
Appearing on On3’s Recruiting Show, Chad Simmons broke down what he sees as how the Trojans flipped the script on McNutt’s recruiting;
“New DC, Coach [D’Anton] Anton obviously made a big impression on Trey Mcnutt. We know USC has an offensive juggernaut under Lincoln Riley. They want to bring guys in like Trey and a new scheme in to make that defense equal to the offense to compete for a national championship. Trey sees that plan. He sees the opportunity not just on the field but off the field in Los Angeles to ‘Build That Brand,’ which we know is really big now in the N.I.L. world for guys like Trey who plays it up as good as anyone does but I think overall USC definitely picked up some traction here and it’s taken the lead in this recruitment.”
