Updated Los Angeles Rams Draft Needs

A week ago the Rams had the 23rd overall pick and were primed to bolster their now loaded team. The Rams apparently weren’t content to roll with the picks they had and traded their 23rd overall pick to the Patriots for wide receiver Brandin Cooks. The trademarked the next step in the Rams’ win now strategy and many criticized it because they are essentially sacrificing depth. Their updated draft order now has their first pick coming in the third round. They also have three fourth-round picks and don’t pick again until the 6th round. This wouldn’t be an issue if the team still didn’t have a few areas to address. So with the Cooks trade, let’s take a new look at some of the biggest Rams draft needs.

Depth On The Offensive Line

The Rams have a solid offensive line but they don’t have much beyond their starters. Andrew Whitworth is on borrowed time and John Sullivan has a history of back issues. Tyrell Crosby out of Oregon could be the eventual successor to Whitworth. Austin Corbett out of Nevada could provide depth at guard or center. If they’re going to want to add to their line they should do it as early as possible given the number of pass rushers available later.

Pass Rushers

The fourth round is the Rams money round. They have three picks and assuming Les Snead doesn’t have any more tricks up his sleeve, it’ll be the best chance to load up on pass rushers. Kemoko Turay out of Rutgers, Josh Sweat out of Florida State and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo out of Oklahoma would be versatile pickups. They needed an injection of youth at that position and now that Alec Ogletree and Robert Quinn are gone, they can’t ignore this area.

It’s possible Les Snead trades one of his three sixth-round picks in order to move up into the fifth round or find a way to get more picks elsewhere. They have two major areas to bolster and Snead has shown he’s not afraid to wheel and deal. The draft is three weeks away so its possible the draft order will be updated again.
