UCLA Bruins Secure Explosive Rusher Via Transfer Portal

The UCLA Bruins have significantly bolstered their offensive arsenal with the addition of running back Anthony Woods from the transfer portal.

Following an official visit to Westwood in early December, Palmdale native Woods has committed to the UCLA Bruins. This move addresses the void left by T.J. Harden, who was among the first players to transfer out of the program following the conclusion of the regular season.

UCLA Bruins Snag Former Utah RB, Anthony Woods

Woods, who amassed 1,223 total yards and 17 touchdowns while averaging 5.5 yards per game in the Big 12 during the 2024 season at Utah, brings a much-needed spark to a UCLA rushing attack that struggled mightily in 2024, averaging a dismal 86.6 yards per game – the worst in the Big Ten.

Woods’ commitment comes amidst significant changes within the UCLA football program. The Bruins recently hired Tino Sunseri as their new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, replacing Eric Bieniemy. This coaching staff overhaul follows a season in which the Bruins struggled offensively, ranking third-worst nationally with an average of just 86.6 rushing yards per game.

Woods joins a running back room that includes Jalen Berger, who rushed for 178 yards on 48 carries and contributed 10 receptions for 59 yards and two touchdowns in eight games last season. Freshman Cameron Jones also returns after appearing in seven games exclusively on special teams.

The Bruins further bolstered their backfield with the addition of four-star running back Karson Cox during the early signing period.
